We had a meeting with a difference in February as Sparks has decided to expand the evening to tie in with the speaker's subject of wedding dresses. Several members brought their dresses along and these were hung up for everyone to see, making a beautiful display of ivory and white lace, satin and net. Added to this we had a great deal of photos on show of members in their dresses and it was fascinating to see the various styles and try and work out who the wearer was. Interestingly most of them were quite easily recognisable so maybe we haven't changed quite as much as we may fear, just a few pounds and a few wrinkles added on.
Mrs Friendship gave us her talk on the History of Wedding dresses using miniature figures she had made herself with wedding dresses dating from 500BC right up to Princess Diana's wedding gown in the 1980's and the modern day sleeveless version which is now so popular. She explained how the styles and materials had changed over the centuries and told us various anecdotes, particularly ones connected with the royal weddings.
It was lovely to see so many people at the meeting and maybe fired with this success, Sparks has suggested we all wear a hat to the next one in Match when the talk itself will be on hats.
