Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting: Monday 8 July 2013 at 7.30pm in the Memorial
Hall
Welcome and apologies: Sparks welcomed everyone. Apologies were received
from Caroline, Sandra and Yvonne.
The minutes were agreed and signed as a
true record.
The Murder Mystery evening was great fun and everyone enjoyed
it. The visit to Milton Lodge Gardens was definitely worth waiting for! The
gardens are exquisite, with wonderful views across Wells. Everyone was very
pleased to be able to lunch at The Bell.
County News: County visit to
Yorkshire for 3 days, page 1.
Craft fair at Bickenhall, page 1. We’ll
discuss the Chairman’s
Christmas challenge at a future meeting.
Country Fair:
Val thanked everyone for their efforts, we made a little more money than
last year.
Sue R’s pick a duck and lucky dip stall were very popular. We
praised Val for her hard work; everyone commented on how attractive the
stall looked on the day.
Forthcoming events: the Earth Science Centre visit
on 22 July. 7th August ACWW day in Binegar, £9.50 and our visit to the
Willow and Wetlands Centre on Friday 9 August,
Next month President’s
Evening at Sparks’ house. Please bring a plate of food to share. We
agreed it would be fun to make it a ‘Southern Belles’ evening and dress
in posh frocks! (Following on from Sue R’s costume at the Murder Mystery
evening!
We wished June F, Kathy, Sue V and Ann a very Happy July
Birthday
AOB: Details read out for the Flower Festival and a coffee morning
to raise funds for it on 20 July. Stewards and cakes will be needed for the
Flower Festival.
Sparks introduced Judy Annan who gave a fascinating talk
about her life of travelling and then, after a coffee break, Gill Odolphie
gave us an enthusiastic and very interesting introduction to Geology, passing round a number of rocks for us to handle.
