Minutes of Meeting 9 January 2017

Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting:  Monday 9 January 2017 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall

Barbara welcomed all to our first meeting in 2017, especially Iris and Sue who have joined from Oakhill and our speaker Jane Norris who came with Edith Knight.  Also pleased to see Yvonne again.
Apologies:  Marguerite and June.
Minutes of Dec meeting:
The minutes having been read by members, were agreed and signed by Barbara as a true record.
Matters Arising:
Resolutions.  Members were asked to give their voting slip to MM, who will return them to County.               MM
2017 Programme.  Thanks to MM for collating & printing the programme.  Cards and booklet will be handed out to members when they have paid their Subs of £39.
Raffle Prizes.  For those who have forgotten please bring a small present suitable for the Raffle to the next meeting.  BT informed members that Hazel is not able to re-join this year and she asked for a volunteer to organise the Raffle.  Unfortunately, no-one felt able to help.                                                                      ALL
Fete.  Hazel had been our Rep on the Fete committee.  BT asked for a member to take her place.  Unfortunately, no-one stepped forward.  BT told members that the Committee had discussed again the possibilities for our Stall and without any other good ideas it was felt we would continue with a Cake & Produce Stall.  We will, however, also have to run an additional stall or attraction on the day and also have members willing to help out where necessary before the Fete.  The funding we receive from the Fete goes a long way to supporting our WI – without this we would have to do our own fund raising, which would not be easy.         ALL
Feedback:
December Meeting.  BT asked members if they had liked making their cards and if they had sent them!  It was generally felt to have been an enjoyable social event.
Monthly Lunch.  Due to illness only 3 members attended.
Coffee Morning.  17 people came this morning.
County News:
Please read.  Nothing specific to mention.  However, if members notice an event here or in their local paper which would be interesting for our next Programme please pass this on to Jan P.                             ALL
Forthcoming Events:
Fundraising for Denman.  BT told members that she will prepare Breakfast on Friday 13 January at 10am at a cost of £5 but unfortunately, not at her house due to re-decoration.  It was suggested to use the Hall.  9 members interested.  [POST MEETING NOTE:  This event will now be held at Shelagh’s house].
WI Birthday Party.  Sunday 29 January at 3pm.  To be held at Shelagh’s house.  13 people interested.  Last month 3 members offered to make small cakes.  Members asked if they would make a Birthday cake but, unfortunately, no-one felt they could offer.
County Roadshow.  Monday 13 March at Beckington from 10-3pm.  7 members interested in going.  There will be more information about speakers, etc next month.  Will also require 2/3 volunteers from each Institute to help in some way on the day.
