Minutes of Meeting 13 March 2017

Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting:  Monday 13 March 2017 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall

Barbara welcomed everyone to our March meeting.
Apologies:  Ann O, Margaret, Mary & Eve.
Minutes of February meeting:
The minutes having been read by members, were agreed and signed by Barbara as a true record.
Matters Arising:
Fete.  Thank you to Christine for volunteering as our new Fete Rep.  Confirmed that we will be selling cakes, produce and ice creams & lollies.  The next Fete meeting is on 15 March.
Promotion Leaflets.  Suggested giving old copies of WI Life magazine to friends and neighbours – they may then be interested in coming along to one of our meetings.
Denman Fundraiser.  Suggested to hold a Jumble Sale in the Autumn.  There was quite a lot of interest amongst members.  Also suggested to have a ‘Soup & Pud’ lunch.  At the May meeting agreed to hold a ‘Bring & Buy’ stall.
Resolutions.  These will be discussed at our May meeting.  2 Resolutions are being put forward and members are encouraged to find out more and vote on both – it is not an ‘either/or’ situation.  ‘Plastic Soup – keep microplastic fibres out of our oceans’ and ‘Alleviating Loneliness’.  A print out of each Resolution was made available to members and can also be e-mailed to them.  Barbara asked for members to be willing to start discussion both For & Against.  Jan P offered to do For on Plastic Soup and Barbara offered to do For on Alleviating Loneliness.
May meeting.  Also suggested to do a Recipe swap and maybe bring a taster (if appropriate).  More information about this meeting next month.
Feedback:
Monthly Lunch & Coffee Morning.  Both well attended
Village Clean.  Thank you to Caroline for organising this event and to all those who turned up (25 people) to clean the village.  Thanks also to Marguerite and June for doing the refreshments.
Standerwick Road Show.  This took place today.  Business in the first part of the morning and some of the information can be e-mailed round to our members.  Details on ACWW, NHS Organ Donor Registration, Love Food Hate Waste, Auditions for this year’s Carol Festival & Somerset Women’s Refuges request for Tesco Giftcards in small denominations.  The morning speaker was on behalf of the Bath Food Bank and in the afternoon a talk from an excellent speaker on her life in the diplomatic service in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
County News:
Please read your copy.  A spring ramble on 7 May at Somerton, a picture of our Breakfast Fundraiser on the middle page and information on p9 on the various items made to help others.  Barbara suggested getting a WI Craft group together to make Twiddle Muffs. Some interest from members.  There is already a Craft & Cuppa group in the village that meets on 1st & 3rd Thursdays and maybe they could join in with this.  Shelagh offered to help.
