Notes on Leigh on Mendip WI “Virtual” Meeting
– Monday 14 December at 7.30pm, online via “Zoom”
All
members had been invited to join this meeting – although we do appreciate that
not everyone has the access to enable them to do so. 13 members took part.
Apologies:
HG, ZL, JM, SR, BT
Tonight was organised as a fun evening as we were not able to have either a Christmas Meal or Christmas meeting in the Hall. All members had received a Goody Bag last week with some fun and festive gifts inside, including items for tonight or make at home if unable to join in. Members had been encouraged to have some 'Drink & Eats' and to raise their glasses to everyone.
Mary welcomed our members and started with a small amount of business.
Forthcoming Events
Next
Zoom meeting – Monday 11 January at 7.30pm. Share stories from the holiday season and
perhaps New Year resolutions.
Monday 25 January
– Institute 72nd Birthday on Zoom.
March Zoom Meeting
– Mary has organised a Speaker.
August. Hopefully, we will be able to meet in the
Hall for our regular meetings. Mary has
re-booked Emma Britten, who we are sure will be a very entertaining and
interesting live speaker.
2021 Membership. Fees are not due until April. Meanwhile the 2021 WI booklets will be distributed to members over the next few weeks.
Our Party then started by everyone being invited to show us their decorations, Christmas/Festive jumper, the hat they'd made from the "Goody" bag and to have a bit of a chat about what they'd been doing or hoped to do over the next few weeks.
We'd been invited to suggest one of our favourite Christmas Carols or Songs. Caroline (with thanks to some help from her children) had arranged the music into a "Beat the Intro" Quiz. It was amazing how many songs we 'knew' but couldn't think of the title or singer! Well done to Mary for scoring 13 out of a possible 20.
Many thanks to Karen for planning for every member to have a Scandi Felt Basket and to Jan for helping prepare some of the materials. Some members had a completed basket in their bag and others had a chance to make theirs tonight, being ably instructed by Karen. Not as easy as it looked! We were all delighted with our efforts and finished basket. Indeed one member went immediately and hung it on her tree.
More of the Songs were played and we were all encouraged to sing-along at home, but also being muted!!
Jo introduced us to the Hand Massage – using the cream and instructions from our bag. We all decided that it was lovely to have some pampering time and were also looking forward to the day when we would feel safe and comfortable to go for a massage in a salon.
Sue Rodford had left instructions for signing "Away in A Manger" – Jan led several practice sessions and then we did it to music. A lot of children in primary schools learn this signing and incorporate it in their Assemblies, etc.
A party wouldn't be the same without a Raffle – and Mary & Caroline had devised a way for every member to receive a prize (using the raffle gifts that had been donated at the beginning of the year). Lovely to hear what we had won and the gifts will be delivered over the coming weeks.
Mary
did a quick Food Quiz – which a number of us found easier than the Music
Quiz! Time then for some final chat and
also to wish everyone a Very Happy Christmas.
A Big Thank You to Mary and everyone else involved in creating such a
lovely end of year for our WI.
