Record of Meeting 8 February 2021

Leigh on Mendip WI “Virtual” Meeting – Monday 8 February 2021 at 7.30pm, online via “Zoom”

All members had been invited to join this meeting – although we do appreciate that not everyone has the access to enable them to do so.     15 members took part.

Apologies:    2 non members

Report from MM:   Still in lockdown we continue to support members with phone calls, e-mails and Zoom meetings.  Some are meeting on a one-to-one basis outside for exercise. Most of our members have now had their first and even second vaccination, which is a step forward.

Record of Meeting on 11 January 2021:  Agreed as true record and will be signed at next in person meeting.       MM

Matters arising/feedback:

·         72nd Birthday on Zoom – 13 ladies joined with a range of Scottish clothing, stories, poems and fun information and pictures from SR. Thanks to all.  Agreed a very enjoyable evening.

·         21 Ways to be happy in 2021 has been sent to all. Suggested to take a look when inspiration is needed.

·         At our last Committee we co-opted Sue Adams and Karen Stoneley to join us – so we look forward to some lovely new ideas.

·         People are continuing to chat to any new neighbours/ladies we see out when walking.  Suggested to offer them to join emails/zoom in the short-term without commitment.

Forthcoming events:

·         Friday 26 Feb, 10.30am.  Zoom Coffee Morning. Just join in and listen, chat, laugh.  Suggested that a theme makes more interesting conversation – topic on "Spring Awakening!".

·         Monday 8th March - Zoom Monthly Meeting with a speaker on the topic of Brilliant Brunel who was on our 2020 programme. Partners welcome to join on screen for the speaker section of the meeting at 7.30 sharp.

·         Village Litter Pick. We will not coordinate a formal day this year. However we will promote the idea to villagers, one week middle of March and put on Website/Facebook. Ask for photos and give info re large items.           CH

·         Monday 22nd March – Social (NB This is evening at 7.30pm – not morning as mentioned in the meeting). Indian theme – try a new recipe and share comments, photos, Indian wear or decorations, stories, holiday photos (to be sent in advance to Caroline). Or just join in the chatter.

·         Somerset Zoom talks continue – look out for emails sent to members by MM for the Zoom or recorded sessions.

·         April onwards we will run Zoom meetings, speakers or social events depending on the current COVID guidelines. We will continue with second social event online until we can be outside. We will not return to meetings in the hall until it is safe and we are all comfortable to be there.  Some of the Committee will be the last to be vaccinated.

·         All members had received by e-mail or post a list of potential speakers.  The results of the feedback from tonight and from those unable to be present will help the Committee to make a shortlist of speakers we’d like for Zoom, the Hall or either. We hope to produce not only a varied Programme for 2021, but also have some good ideas for 2022!

Birthdays:  Happy Birthday to MCh for 20th and JP 28th

Treasurer’s report:  CH has completed the YE Accounts.  They were approved at the Committee meeting last week.  We are in a comfortable financial position.  We broke even in 2020 even though we had no Fundraising Income from the Village Fair (which was cancelled due to Covid).  They have been sent to our Independent Examiner and will be presented to all members in due course.                                                                                                         CH

AOB:

Blog.  Members reminded to take a look.    http://leighonmendipwi.blogspot.com/

Members who have moved away.  JH seems happy in her new home and has been in touch.  AW still unwell but at least in her new home.  HG has not moved far away and is keeping in touch by Zoom, WhatsApp, etc.  MN hopes to move within the next few weeks.  We wish them all well.

We were then split into separate rooms (3 or 4 members in each room).  We had a chance to score our own individual interest in each of the Speakers.  MM will now collate all this to inform the Committee to set a Programme for the coming year.

Still in our rooms each group took part in a fun Quiz.  The winning team were ED, BT, SV & SD.  Well done to everyone!  And thank you to MM for asking the questions.
