Record of Meeting 12 January 2015


Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting:  Monday 12 January 2015 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall
The meeting opened with a short Pantomime of ‘Cinderella’ performed by 4 of the Committee.
Welcome and Apologies:  Mary took on the role of Chair for this meeting.  She welcomed all members and Paula, our most recent new member.  Apologies from Shelagh, Marguerite, Kathy, Val, Sandra and Gill.
The minutes having been read by all members were agreed and signed by Mary as a true record.
Matters Arising:
Subs of £36 are due tonight.
Booklet of Vouchers – received by each member.
Resolution Slips – to be handed in tonight.  Mary will collate and send off.  There will then be a short-list to be discussed in May and taken to the AGM in June.  Mary will attend as Cranmore were unable to send a delegate.    MM
Raffle Prizes  - reminder to members to donate a prize.   ALL
Monthly Lunch – 6 members met at The Bell on Friday 9 January and had an enjoyable time.  Members asked to let Margaret know if they have any preferences for the next lunch on Friday 6 February.    ML
2015 Programme – members were handed their own copy.  Tea rota is included as well as dates of other events.
Forthcoming Events:
Community Coffee Morning – to be held on Monday 19 January.
Group Business Meeting – to be held at Kilmersdon on 21 January.  This is open to all members.  Please let Mary or Caroline know if you wish to attend.
WI Birthday Party – to be held on Friday 30 January.  The Hall has been booked for a Fun Bingo Evening.  Partners and friends are very welcome.  Starts at 7.30pm.  Committee will set up but would appreciate help with clearing up at the end.  Please would members bring either a small prize or something little towards the refreshments.  Coffee and tea will be served at the interval.
Scrapbook – members were reminded that in 2015 we will be collecting articles, etc to put together in a Scrapbook.  Please bring any items to each of the monthly meetings.     ALL
County News:
Centenary Roadshow (front page).  Kilmersdon 10 March.  Tickets £5 – apply by 13 Feb.  Page 3 – details of Fri 6 March, Stoke St Michael, through to Sunday 8 March at Cranmore.
Centenary Gala Dinner (back page).  4 March at N Petherton.  £15.  Payable by 18 Feb.
Outing to Sherborne.  Page 5.  Croscombe WI – possibly an outing for us??
Bollywood Evening at Cranmore.  Page 5. Consider for our 2016 Programme.
Denman College Visit – Monday 16 March.  Page 6.
Frome – Bramble & Wild Session – will be coming to Leigh on Mendip in December.
PA+INT Visit to Avon & Somerset Police 999 Centre.  Page 7.  Cost £4.  Apply by 16 Feb.
Correspondence:   Nothing to report.
Treasurer’s Report  £788.08 in the Bank, £7.95 Petty Cash.  Caroline gave a brief verbal report on the current position of the Budget.  We are in a similar position to this time last year.  A few measures have been put in place to cut back on some spending, eg the drinks with the Christmas meal.  If we carry on being careful with the expenses then our WI should be able to stay sound financially. Members were asked if they wished for £75 to be put into a Bursary for a member to go to Denman and it was unanimously agreed.   CH

February Meeting:
Sarah Bailey will be coming to give a talk and demonstration on her work as a Caricaturist.  She can also do them after her talk for £3 if members are interested.  Refreshments – Sandra and Liz.  VOT – Barbara.

Village Fair – June and Hazel will give an update at the February meeting. JB/HP
Fair Frome - We have been included in the "Thank Yous" on their recent newsletter.
Parish Meadow Project – we have all been sent a copy of this project on a recent e-mail.  There is more information in the Parish Council Minutes of their November meeting.  This may be of interest to members.  Please contact Anthea, Clerk to the Parish Council. ALL
