Meeting: Monday 8 February 2016 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall

everyone and especially Joanna Volonterio.
Apologies: Marguerite, Ann Wells (a new member).
Minutes of Last Meeting: Members agreed they had read the minutes and they
could be signed by BT as a true record.
Matters Arising:
Voucher Books. Thanks to Mary for delivering these to
members.
Raffle Prizes. Thank you to everyone who has donated a
prize. Please let Hazel have any others.
Scrapbook. Please hand in your slip on ‘Why I like being
a WI member’ to one of the Committee.
These will be included with all the other photos and articles for our
2015 scrapbook.
Denman Bursary. Sue R will lend her book of courses to
June. Decision should be made soon as to
whether they both wish to go.
Feedback:
Birthday Party. The skittles evening was fun and members felt
it had been a good choice.
Coffee Morning. Thank you to everyone who came on 1 February.
Monthly Lunch – Friday 5
February. 9 ladies attended.

Fashion Show – 22 April. £21 including 2 course dinner. SH/SR/JP/JB/CH/MM/BT wish to go. Closing date 31 March. Anyone else interested please give names by
March meeting.
Roadshow – Tuesday 19
April. Jane Weston interested.
Forthcoming Events:
Monthly Lunch. Friday 4 March. 12.15 at The Bell.
Litter Pick. Saturday 5 March. 2-4pm.
‘Clean for the Queen’. Bring
gloves and small carrier bags and if possible a reflective jacket. Some jackets and litter picks will be
available. Encourage family and friends
to join in. Refreshments at the end.
Village Quiz. Saturday 19 March. Team – SV/MM/CH/AO.
Spring Group Meeting. All members encouraged to attend on 23 March
at Nunney. Interesting speaker – Sarah Jane
Bungay from Points West. Competition A5
size “Fools News” in 150 words. Members
encouraged to ‘have a go’ and bring entry to our next meeting.
ACWW Walk. Sunday 24 April. Open to husbands, partners and friends. Walk around the quarry and finish up at
Shelagh’s house for refreshments.
Royal Garden Party. Sometime in June at Beckington Village
Hall. Posh frocks and hats. Details to follow.
Carol Service. Kilmersdon WI to host in December at either
Coleford or Kilmersdon Church.
Autumn Group Meeting. 3 October at Beckington. Competition ‘Photo involving bells’. Plenty of time to take one before then!
Notes from recent Business Meeting. ACWW Day at Denman on 11
March. WI Embroidery Display for Castle
House at Taunton - contact Hazel for
more info. Craft Event ‘Spring into
Summer’ on 7 May. Members asked to share
their skills with other Institutes – possibly as a speaker. Buckland Craft afternoons are continuing on
the last Sunday of each month.
Correspondence:
County Quiz evening. Is anyone interested in organising to host
one at our village?
Bath & West Show. WI run the refreshment tent and are looking
for volunteers. Requires a whole day –
work for half the time and the rest is free.
CH is going on the Saturday.

Treasurer’s Report:
We
have been asked to re-join the Hall 100 Club.
Agreed to pay the £10. WI Subscription: £37.50.
Bursary stands at £150.

New
Exhibition at Radstock Museum on ‘Threads through Time, embroidery & lace’
until 29 May. SH/JP interested. Will look at some dates and inform members in
case anyone else wishes to join in.
Barbara
then welcomed David Moon who gave an excellent slide show set to music on the
beautiful flowers at the different gardens he has visited. He also explained about the origins of the
National Gardens Scheme and the continuing good works they support with the
monies raised.
