Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting: Monday 13 November 2017 at 7.30pm in the
Memorial Hall
Sue
Rodford welcomed everyone to our September meeting. We were reminded that it was ‘World Kindness
Day’ – which is particularly relevant to the WI Resolution on ‘Loneliness’ and
dealing with it in our own community.
Apologies: Shelagh,
Margaret, Gwen, Hazel, Marguerite and Eve.
Minutes of October meeting:
The
minutes having been read by members, were agreed as a true record and signed by
Sue.
Matters Arising:
June Brewster. Has had her operation and recovering
well. A gift and card has been sent from
the WI. Meanwhile Jan P will continue to
deal with the Food Bank donations until June is able to take on this task
again. A reminder to WI members that we
suggested giving a ‘Christmas’ donation instead of the Secret Santa at our
Christmas meal next month.
Programme Planning Meeting. This had gone well. Thanks to Jane and Jeni for coming with their
ideas. Just one month to be filled. Hope members will be pleased with the programme.
YMCA Shoeboxes. Thanks for donations and wrapping the
boxes. 7 completed which Caroline took
to the County meeting.
Autumn County Meeting. Attended by Caroline, Marguerite and
Barbara. They all agreed it was an
excellent day with interesting speakers – the Chief Constable of Somerset &
Avon Police and Mandy Hickson, a former RAF Pilot. Quiz sheets were collected and have been
handed out.
Safeguarding Training. Reminder this is taking place in the
afternoon of Sunday 19 November in the Village Hall.
Merlin Theatre. Tickets for ‘One Man Two Guvnors’ on 23
November have been handed out. Suggested
to leave at 7pm for 7.45pm start.
Group Carol Service. Friday 1 December at 11am at Buckland
Dinham. Sue R doing a reading. Mary, Barbra, Caroline, Sue R, Val &
Christine attending. Suggest lunch at
The Bell at Buckland Dinham. Sue R to check
if this can be arranged. Also suggested to
have normal monthly lunch at The Bell in Leigh on Mendip as usual for those
members not attending the Carol Service.
Christmas Meal. All arranged for Peppers in Shepton
Mallet. Please complete lists tonight
and give money to Mary. Confirmed they
have a licence. Be ready to eat at
7.30pm. Suggest parking at the first car
park on the left after the viaduct.
Toothbrush collection. There is a basket for donations. These will be handed over to the Staff at
Coleford surgery – to be taken to Africa.
WI Banner. The Banner that was made for the Summer Fair
was shown to members and agreed we could use this for the Centenary Parade in
Wells in April. It will need some extra
poles for carrying and holding in place.
Summer Fair. Christine and Val attended the recent
meeting. Our suggestion of Ice Creams,
Pimms & non-alcoholic punch, and the Tombola was well received. Date is 16 June 2018. Members reminded to keep the date free as we
will need a Rota of helpers on the day.
Next Fair meeting is on 6 December.
