Minutes of Meeting 11 December 2017

Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting:  Monday 11 December 2017 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall

Sue Rodford welcomed everyone to our December meeting. 
Apologies:  Sandra, Christine, Val, Gwen, Hazel, Marguerite and Eve.

Attendance Prize:  Both Christine & Val had achieved 100% attendance (until tonight!).  A little gift will be given to them

Minutes of November meeting:
The minutes having been read by members, were agreed as a true record and signed by Sue.

Matters Arising:
Programme 2018.  A big Thank You to the Committee and those members who attended the planning meeting.  Mary has a rota tonight for the Refreshments and the VOT.  Please sign up.  The booklet will be ready for our January meeting.
Visit to Shepton Jail.  Jane gave members the information for this guided visit on Saturday 13 January at 3pm. Cost £18/£16.  Names tonight please and money to Jane by the end of the week.
Bristol Hippodrome Visit.  Thank you to Jeni for offering to organise a trip to see Anton & Erin but there was no interest.
Bath Theatre Royal.  Members were told that there is an evening of Dance with Vincent & Flavia the week of 29 January, if they wish to make their own arrangements.
Photo Competition 2018.  Sue R and Jan P have offered to take photos at meetings & events through the year but would like other members to also take part.  12 photos will be selected to be entered into the competition.

Feedback:
Merlin Theatre Visit.  Thank you to Jan P for organising the trip to see ‘One Man 2 Guvnors’.  14 people went and had a good evening.
Group Carol Service.  Really enjoyable.  Tea, coffee & mince pies.  3 members stayed to have lunch at The Bell at Buckland Dinham.
Monthly Lunch.  3 members went to The Bell on Friday 1 December.
Monthly Coffee Morning.  Enjoyed by those who went on Monday 4 December.
Christmas Meal – Tuesday 5 December.  21 members went.  Really enjoyable evening – we were well looked after by the Staff and had the place to ourselves.

County News:
Eastbourne Holiday.  26 Feb – 2 March.  £250.  (front page).
Pop Up Garden.  Help wanted.  Part of Somerset WI Centenary to create a garden at the Bath & West Show. (p2).
Centenary Lunch.  10 February at Taunton, Ann Widdecombe (p3).

Forthcoming Events:
Carols at Wells.  Wednesday 13 December.  Members going already have their tickets.
Monthly Lunch.  Friday 5 January at the Bell.
Coffee Morning.  Monday 8 January.
WI 69TH Birthday.  A lunch will be organised at Barbara’s house on Saturday 3 February 2018.  Details to follow.
Village Clean.  Saturday 3 March.
ACWW Walk.  Monday 30 April.
National AGM 2018.  Will be held in Cardiff.  Shepton Mallet will represent us but members can attend as ‘observers’.  Places limited and cost £20.  Please let Mary know before 5 January if you are interested.

Correspondence:
Resolutions 2018.  Please look in your Nov/Dec WI Life for information on the 5 Resolutions.  WI Members need to consider which one they would most like to see to go forward and put an X on the Selection Form.  Please bring your completed form to our January meeting.  Mary will collate them.
WI Membership Booklets.  These should be available at our January meeting.
Christmas Card received from June Greenaway our new WI Adviser.  It was suggested to invite her to one of our monthly meetings.

Treasurers Report:
Caroline reported that the Subs for next year (payable in January) will be £41.  Cheques payable to Leigh on Mendip WI OR Caroline will let members know how to do an electronic transfer.

Arrangements for January:
Rev Clive Fairclough, new vicar at Mells – ‘His life & adventures before becoming a Vicar’.  VOT: tbc.  Refreshments: Ann + one other.  Decided that this would be an Open Meeting.  Caroline will put on Village Facebook and Website.

Birthdays:
Sue Steer – 22 December and Jeni 30 December.

AOB:
Burns Night.  The Bell Ringers will be hosting this event again – Saturday 27 January.  Details from Jan P.

Sue Rodford then welcomed Sandy Osborne who gave a very interesting talk on how she decided to take up writing and having her first book published, whilst she was still a serving officer in the Police force.
