Record of the LOM WI Institute Meeting in the Memorial Hall on Monday 9th January 2023
Jan Pattison welcomed everyone and explained that Caroline was
unwell. Special welcome to Tanya and New Year’s wishes to all. Thanks to those
for setting up today.

Matters
arising/feedback:
§ Programme
cards – make sure you collect one tonight. Does not include Tea Rota or Vote of
Thanks.
§ Tea Rota –
see Sue Adams if you have not already agreed a slot.
§ Vote of
Thanks volunteers needed for rest of the year – sign up on list tonight.
§ Resolutions – 4 to choose from – Hand slips or fill one in tonight. (14
collected so far) Mary will remind those not returned tonight or by email
before the end of Jan.
§ Raffle Prizes – can everyone please bring one item/unwanted gift value approx. £3 next month or so and cross your name off the list – see Kaz.

events:
§ Lunch at
The Bell this month – Weds 18th 12.30. Just come for a starter, lunch
or just a drink. Let Mary know if interested so we have enough space.
§ Subgroups all
restarting now, Walking group when weather warmer. Why not try something new
for 2023? Confirmed that Craft afternoons are for anyone making anything.
§ Birthday
Party Saturday 28 January 2-4.30pm Film with tea and cake in hall. Lots of help
needed from all members – setting up hall, making traybake/small cakes, serving
teas, washing up, clearing hall. All of those able, please sign up for one task
tonight. Let Mary know if you are or are not attending.
§ Village
Litter Pick – Saturday 11th March, 2-4pm. We will take names for
helpers, cake etc next month.
§ Outing to
Radstock Museum – Thursday 27th April – private viewing. Take
names/money in March
§ National AGM in Cardiff. Thurs 25th May. Our Delegate to be confirmed, but Observer tickets available £22. Let Mary know if interested. Online viewing available too.

P2 Heart Month February.
We are planning a simple fun thing at Feb meeting and will collect cash for
BHF.
§
P8 Bag Making
session. Karen will be attending and will then run a Craft session here for
anyone interested.
Correspondence:
International Women’s Day theme Women in Leadership. Thurs 9 March 2023 from 7 to 9pm, the NFWI will be hosting a webinar on Zoom for WI members and members from the Six-O group. The Six-O group is made up of the six leading women’s organisations in the UK. Ask Committee for more details.
Birthdays: Belated for Roxy on NY Day, Jo later this month.

§ Gerry Duncan’s funeral this Friday 13th 1.30 Mendip Crem for
anyone not yet seen info. Lifts possible.
§ Blog reminder – look at photos of our events, minutes etc – on programme card.
Jan then Welcomed our Speaker Martin Horler from Kilmersdon who talked on “Bygone
Days – it’s not all beer and skittles”. He started with a song and we finished
joining in with a poem. This was a varied and interesting talk with many slides
on the history of pubs and their many alternative uses over the centuries,
groups who always meet there. Friendly Societies, Morris dancers, Cock
fighting, Quoits, Mummers Plays, Wassailing and other traditions.
