Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting: Monday 13 January 2014 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall
Welcome and Apologies: Sparks welcomed everyone and wished them a Happy New Year. Apologies from Sue Rodford, Margaret, June Featherstone, Marguerite, Gill and Jan Horn.
The minutes having been read by all members were agreed and Sparks signed as a true record.
Matters Arising:
Nothing, that is not covered elsewhere in the meeting.
Feedback:
Val had attended the WI Christmas Carol Service in Wells and said how much she had enjoyed it and hoped more people from LoM attend the next one. The Lady Dean was particularly pleased that she had been chosen to take this service.
Resolution Slips have been returned by members and MM will send off.
County News:
All members were handed their copy to read. Of particular interest:
‘Your Image & Style’ event on 22 February & ‘Literary Lunch’ on 14 March.
Article on the shoe boxes collected for the YMCA
Denman Visit at the end of October. Wide variety of courses. Bursary available.
Forthcoming Events:
Coffee Morning, Monday 20 January. All in hand.
65th Birthday Party - Saturday 25 January in the Village Hall, 3-5pm. Sparks has 2 lists for members to sign up on a) List of Jobs and b) Food to be made. It will be a traditional afternoon tea. Sue R has offered to make all the sandwiches. The Ukulele band is confirmed – they will play ‘Jerusalem’ and ‘Happy Birthday’. Members agreed to elegant dress-wear. To date 8 members from other Institutes confirmed as coming.
Spring Group Business Meeting, 27 January – SB/CH/MM.
Village Clean Up, 15 March. Details next month.
Correspondence: Buckland Dinham is arranging a visit to Chichester for the Flower Festival on 29 May.
Treasurer’s Report: £742.18 in the Bank and £7.39 Petty Cash. Yearly subscriptions have been paid and will be accounted for next month.
Birthdays: Sparks on 23rd and Jan Horn on 28th.
February Meeting: Ruth Davis will be speaking on the ‘Potters Village’. She will bring items to sell. Agreed members will also run a ‘Bring & Buy’ stall with the proceeds going to this charity.

Sparks’ son then took a photo of all members present for our 65th birthday. Refreshments were served and members who had given Caroline photos gave very interesting and varied short talks.
