Monthly Meeting Monday 13 June 2016

Leigh on Mendip WI Meeting:  Monday 13 June 2016 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall

Barbara welcomed all present including visitors from Frome and Buckland Dinham and Anne Wells who was attending her first meeting since joining our WI.

Minutes of May meeting:
The minutes of the May meeting having been read by members, were agreed and signed by Barbara as a true record.  

Matters Arising
Our Scrapbook for 2015 is almost completed.  Will be on display at President’s Evening in August.
Denman Fund Raiser – suggested we hold a Coffee & Cake evening in September.
Outing to Frome on 27 July.  Start guided walk at 6.30pm in Frome.  £3.  Names please tonight.
Bulb Catalogues to Caroline tonight.
Bath & West Show – Caroline went on the Saturday.  Worked hard.  New venue which was very successful.
Radstock Museum visit 11 June.  Caroline & Jan enjoyed their trip.
Coffee Morning & Monthly lunch – both successful. 

Forthcoming Events
Fun Singing – 15 June in Wells
Village Fair.  This is the only major fund raiser for our WI.  If we didn’t help run a stall we would not have sufficient funds to run with good speakers.  Please would everyone help by making/donating produce, etc.  Please sign up to help on the rota.  Raffle tickets – please try to sell as many as you can.  Evening tickets - £3 (fun and relaxing).
Glastonbury Cakes.  Caroline has been asked to collect and deliver cakes (but no details yet).  AO/SOS offered cakes.
Group social – Tuesday 28 June at 5.30pm in Beckington.  Anyone else interested?
President’s Evening.  Monday 8 August.  7pm.  Please bring a plate of food to share.  Will be a knife & fork meal.  BT’s house.
Autumn Group Meeting – 3 October.

Correspondence
Party at Kiilmersdon – Thursday 14 July. 7.30pm. £8 – supper & speaker.  Interested – MC/SH/SR/MM.
Calendars £3.50 & Diaires £4.50 – please order tonight or July meeting.
Holcombe ladies evening – 14 June.  7.30pm.  Good speaker.
BBC want fun & outgoing people for TV Quiz shows.
Denman offer of Bursary – anyone interested?  We also currently have £150 on offer to anyone wishing to do a course.

County News
Abba Tribute Night, 12 October – Beckington thinking of running a mini-bus.  Anyone interested?
Lymes Disease article on p7.  Also info on ICE  (In Case of Emergency) contact in your mobile phone.

Speaker on ‘Hand & Nail’ care.  Val/Marguerite – refreshments.  VOT: SOS.

Birthdays:
Hope MM/JW/Liz/June/Hazel Tucker all had enjoyable birthdays.  Happy Birthday to Val for 11 July.

Barbara then introduced our Speaker Anna Perra who spoke about her career in the fashion world and her business in Shepton Mallet.  We were then entertained by 6 members modelling some of the clothes from her shop – showing how the same outfit could be smart or dressed down.  Anna also did a display on tying scarves.
