Leigh on
Mendip WI “Virtual” Meeting – Monday 27 April 11am, online via “Zoom”
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic the WI
meetings in the Village Hall have been cancelled for the foreseeable
future. However, Mary has kept in touch
with all members by e-mail, post and Easter cards. (Thank you for co-ordinating all of
this). News and information has been
passed on in this way. In addition a
telephone rota has been set up to “have a chat” with members.

virtual meeting and information sent to members in advance.]
11 members took part in this first
Zoom session. Hopefully, more will be
able to join in next time.

Village Clean Up. This took place on 14 March with help from
members and other local village people.

Village Quiz –

Group Meeting –

Will let members know when we can resume.
ACWW Walk –
Friday 24 April. Members were encouraged to walk on their own
or with household members either in their gardens or outside their homes and to
take photos and send to Mary to collate for our Blog/County News. One member has shared their walk. (See Correspondence for an Update on Walk).
Bulb Orders. Mary has
sent details on how we can order bulbs this year. Return orders and money (cheque to
Leigh on Mendip WI or pay online) by (now
26th May) please, to Mary.

Pauline’s Farm
& Garden Visit, Oakhill. Was planned for Friday 22 May, 2.30pm. £4 in aid of Dorothy House. Likely
to be rescheduled
Kilmersdon
Supper Party – Planned for Thursday 11 June. Likely to be rescheduled
County Quiz. Rescheduled to Wednesday 30th September. Details to follow
Group Social –
Planned for Tuesday 30 June. Likely
to be rescheduled. 7pm visit to
Spindle Cottage, Binegar. Tour, social
and tea & scones. £7 each.
Frome Walk Outing – may need to be
rescheduled. Proposed date is early
evening on Monday 20 July.
Potential Name
Change.
Members encouraged to keep thinking about that and collect ideas before
we meet up again. Ideas of unusual names sent.

Correspondence:
ACWW has taken
the decision to postpone Women Walk the World with the aim of celebrating it
for 2020 on 15 October, coinciding
with the International Day of Rural Women. We can promote it for then.
Treasurer’s Report:
No update on Bank
or Petty Cash. However, still hold a £90
Bursary, £61.62 for the Community Coffee Morning and £60.38 for future Group
Meeting losses.

Denman – why not have a look at the Denman
brochure online. The College is
currently closed but you can plan into later this year or even 2021. https://www.denman.org.uk/whats-on/

The WI national website also has loads of
ideas for recipes and crafts. If you haven’t used it before then you will need
to do a simple registration to access the member only sections and go to the
Make, Create and Do section https://mywi.thewi.org.uk/

Sewing for the
NHS & Carers. Karen has been helping to co-ordinate work on
making masks, bags, etc. Please contact
her if you would like more information.
Some members have already been busy sewing.

County are still asking for people to make
Heart Cushions and bags for oncology patients, or knee blankets (1metre square
minimum) which are distinctive design/colours for dementia patients in hospital
who then take them home. Instructions
for all 3 projects have been sent out.

Leigh on Mendip Art & Crafts Exhibition planned
for 10/11 October.
·
LOM village website. The
website now has a clearer chart of all the help sections, just hit the red
Coronavirus Help title.

Walking.
Some members have enjoyed their daily exercise walking around the
village. See the LOM Village Website for
details on some of the footpaths.

Fitness
Programmes.
Some members have been keeping up their exercise routines by following
online fitness classes at home.
·
Ideas for future
online meetings – Quiz,
Scavenger Hunt. All try and encourage others to join in.
·
Social – show and tell and invite guests – for when we can all meet in
person again. Reschedule speakers as possible or into next year.
Our Speaker was
to have been a Talk and Demonstration on “How to Make a Buttonhole”. Members were sent a link to a YouTube
demonstration and encouraged to “have a go” at home. One member had fun using just greenery and
flowers from the garden (see The Blog).
It’s not too late if you would like to try now and send in a photo.
